About ANIMALCOI

Animalcoi is one of the few festivals in Spain dedicated exclusively to the art of animation.
Its origins go back to the Animation Days, held annually since 2017 by EASDALCOI (School of Art and Design of Alcoi).

In 2020, these sessions took a major step forward and evolved into a festival. The pandemic forced the first edition to be transformed into the Animalcoi Awards 2020, held entirely online. One year later, in November 2021, Animalcoi finally debuted as an in-person festival, beginning a journey that, in 2025, reaches its fifth edition as a consolidated and growing event.

For seven days each November, various venues across the city of Alcoi host a diverse programme aimed at all audiences: students, professionals, and animation lovers, who can enjoy a carefully curated selection of national and international works.

Main activities

  • International short film competition with three categories (International, National, and Schools), all with cash prizes and a professional jury.

  • Screenings of the year’s most acclaimed animated feature films.

  • Educational programme with school sessions bringing animation to young audiences.

  • Specialised workshops on animation techniques and processes.

  • Thematic exhibitions.

  • Alcoi Professional Animation Days (ANIMALCOI PRO), a meeting point for the industry.

  • Special activities, such as the independent video games showcase.

Animalcoi is organised by ADAD (Association for the Development of Art and Design) in collaboration with EASDALCOI, with the support of institutions, companies, and professionals who share a passion for animation in all its forms.
